  • Just writing to support this suggestion, since you think people not speaking up means they don’t want it. Personally, I usually search for what I need and give up or find an alternate if I can’t figure it out on my own. Generally too lazy to ask – others are probably like me.

    I currently post Addthis HTML buttons to the bottom of every post I make where I want to use it instead of using the plugin because I can’t turn it off for specific categories. This messes up my RSS feed also. Even if turning Addthis on/off for categories isn’t possible, I would at least like the ability to turn it on/off for each individual post at the user interface.

    The reason I need this feature is because the majority of my posts are image galleries with a particular look that the Addthis buttons interfere with. I only want the plugin to be active on my news blog posts. I’m sure someone with more knowledge than me could hack this, but I, like many users, am not a coder so we really need user interface options to control the plugin.

    I have the same problem as the original writer of this post.
    I want to exclude the add-this share buttons from a certain page only (contact).
    This seems to be the answer to that:

    The version released today allows for you to set addthis_exclude custom field to ‘true’ for it not to work. Next big release I’ll add in a better UI/UX for this.

    But I can’t see it. I’m on the dashboard of my contact page looking at the screen options but there is no setting for the addthis there…
    What am I missing here?

    @jorbin
    I think the most user friendly way to exclude posts or page is if you add a simple form for it – like “Posts/pages to exclude – type ID’s, separate with commas”
    Custom fields are still difficult to many users.

    @peter
    You find Custom fields below the content field in the post panel. At the bottom of that panel you click Write new. Then type ‘addthis_exclude’ in the Name field to the left – and ‘true’ in the Value field to the right.
    Next time you’ll find the addthis_exclude in the name dropdown menu, at the bottom of the Custom field panel.
    (If the labels are somewhat different, its just because I use a translated version of WordPress :o)

    @kjetilgf
    Thank you, I get it now, works like a charm.

    Version 2.1.0 now has a post meta box that you can enable from the screen options in both the post and page screens to disable addthis on a given post. Additionally, there is a filter( addthis_post_exclude ) that you can use if you want to programmatically remove addthis from posts. Marking this as resolved. Thanks for the suggestion and feedback from everyone.

    Thank you for being so open and responsive to feedback, one of the most of all plug-in authors I’ve encountered.
