Iā€™m experiencing a significant issue with my site, and I believe Jetpack might be involved. The site is generating an unusually high volume of POST requestsā€”up to 200 times per minute, and sometimes as many as 10 to 15 times per second. These requests are predominantly coming from the site itself, which is unusual.

Hereā€™s a typical line from the Apache logs:

    104.196.191.55 - - [13/Aug/2024:13:36:47 +0000] "POST / HTTP/1.0" 200 33194 "-" "WordPress/6.6; https://www.domain.com"

The continuous POST requests seem to be related to cron jobs, and many of them have Jetpack in the paths, which makes me suspect Jetpack might be the culprit. However, Iā€™m open to the possibility that another plugin could be causing this.

I’ve also noticed occasional 504 errors, and upon further investigation, I found that an indexing bot from China was contributing to these errors.

Given the scale of the issue, Iā€™d greatly appreciate any advice on proper configuration changes within Jetpack to reduce the load and mitigate these POST requests. If you have insights into what might be causing this behavior or any specific settings I should check, that would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance for your support!

  • Hi there,

Thanks for reporting this and sorry to hear you had that trouble!

I’ve run some tests and adjusted a couple of things on our side, with respect to Jetpack’s syncing with your site. Could you please:

    1. Update to Jetpack 13.7
    2. Reconnect Jetpack to your site

After you’ve done that, please let us know if the high volume of POST requests is still there and we’ll keep digging.

    Hello @bradyk00,

Do you have updates about that, do you still need help? We usually close inactive threads after one week of no movement, but we want to make sure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!d

    Hey @bradyk00,

We’re still seeing problems with Jetpack’s sync to your site. It looks like you’re using the wp-missed-schedule plugin. From what I understand, this plugin doesn’t use standard wp-cron to mark posts as published. Rather, it uses its own internal mechanism. This can then cause problems with how Jetpack syncs your posts to the WordPress.com servers, since it gives us the appearance of cron working, even when it doesnā€™t.?It’s likely that this is the culprit, here. You could try installing the WP Crontrol plugin to diagnose possible cron issues.

Can you tell us more about why you’re using the missed schedule plugin?
