Excerpts with images in category view

Hello,

I just changed my category and search views to have only the excerpts. I prefer that as it’s easier for readers to navigate. I am wondering if there is any way to add images to the excepts in those views, rather than just having text.

I know you can do this by switching code to “the_content…”, but I am not interested in having the whole post show up. I searched the forums and plugins and haven’t found anything.
