I’m using Twenty Twenty Three theme and even though I did a lot of research and tried different approaches offered in forums, etc, including the Advanced Excerpt plugin, I can’t make this work. All I want is to include clickable links in my excerpt.

The reason I want this, is because I’m close to being able to have my excerpts expandable via a link. I want my posts to be similar to how we navigate on social media where the visitors are able to see my posts with the image, then the “caption” (excerpt) and if the excerpt is longer than X words, it shows a “see more” link that will expand the excerpt. For this to work as intended, I want any links to be clickable like all social media platforms work (except for Instagram… ?????♂?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! ??

Hello,

from where are you trying to add the link ? you can add a field for excerpt link by customizing the single.php.

I’m not sure what you mean by “from where are you trying to add the link ?” Can you clarify?

I tried different approaches.

So far no luck.

This approach “you can add a field for excerpt link by customizing the single.php.” is a bit complex to me as I’m not a developer or anything. I also would like to not mess with individual php files if possible to avoid issues when updating, unless I can add a single.php file to my child theme and only modify that? I’m using the Twenty Twenty Three theme on WordPress 6.5.4 and from what I read it seems that the structure is a bit different with the new Editor, the Templates, etc, so I wonder if there’s another way to make changes without changing the core php files (unless I can have a single.php file in my child theme).

@lordspace thank you for sharing that link. Unfortunately, I created the plugin with that code, installed it, but no clickable links.

And this is the frontend. You can see that the “veniam” is just text and the HTML is still visible as normal text:

@papai40515 In the Twenty Twenty-Three theme there’s no single.php file, only single.html inside the Templates folder.

I would assume that file serves the same purpose, but again, I’m no developer so I wouldn’t know what to do with either file.

Would you be able to offer a specific solution that I could implement and see if that works?
