    Hi !

    I need help!

I am a new user. Adding the %%excerpt%% variable to Titles & Meta settings should autogenerate a snippet from the content, but it doesn’t and I can’t figure out why. I always get: Please provide a meta description by editing the snippet below.

Looking at “all posts” (or pages), the Meta Description column is all empty. However, I can see the meta description in the page source :

    <meta name=”description” content=”the excerpt here”/>

So it is in the page source, but not in the snippet…

NOTE THAT THE HOME PAGE IS OK because I have written the excerpt manually (not auto generated).

My site is a news site (https://africareportonbusiness.com/) and it aggregates news from different sources using a plugin called WPeMatico (RSS feed). I have disactivated the plugin, but I still have the same problem. Even when I am publishing a post manually, I still have the same issue. I even tried with a different theme (I am using MH Newsdesk), but the issue remained.

I have spent hours searching everywhere to find out that others have the same issue as well, but they didn’t get clear answer either. It is always the fault of the theme or a plugin. At the end of the day, it you be really nice to add something in Yoast Knowledge Base.

I am not an expert and it might be a problem number 13… (13 inches away from the computer screen!), but I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this… either in English or French.

    Thanks in advance…

That sounds like a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Make sure the issue doesn’t persist when Yoast SEO is disabled.
    2. Check for conflicts.

If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.

Hi ! Thank you for your answer.

    I have deactivated all plugins.

I switched theme to Twenty Seventeen

I activated Yoast as it is required to auto generate the excerpt (my issue)

The issue remains; the excerpt is still not generated (%%excerpt%%)

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Martin
