• So, I’ve tried everything I can but excerpts are no longer working when I share my posts/blogs on Facebook. I have also entered the excerpts manually on the Yoast SEO plugin setting on a post and it still not showing but on twitter its working fine?

    I have even used the sharing debugger on facebook developers and it still hasn’t done anything. Please help, I have researched this problem and it seems that YOAST has had this problem ongoing for years now.

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    @koboo We checked on your site https://koboo.co.uk/ and reviewed the source code and do see that Yoast is outputting the Open Graph metadata for Facebook as follows:

    <meta property="og:title" content="Home | KOBOO ??? ??" />
    <meta property="og:description" content="Keeping you up to date on the latest Korean fashion news!" />
    <meta property="og:url" content="https://koboo.co.uk/" />
    <meta property="og:site_name" content="KOBOO ??? ??" />
    <meta property="article:publisher" content="https://www.facebook.com/koboomag" />
    <meta property="article:modified_time" content="2020-08-13T22:32:42+00:00" />
    <meta property="og:image" content="https://i2.wp.com/koboo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/KOBOO-Preview-Logo.png?fit=1640%2C856&ssl=1" />

    We also checked the page in the Facebook sharing debugger and verified that the debugger was reading all of the Open Graph metadata for Facebook correctly (see image here). Also, we tried testing the URL on an actual Facebook post and were also able to confirm there that Facebook is reading all of the metadata correctly (see image here).

    Is this issue only occurring on certain pages? If so can you please provide us with an example URL so that we can check into this further?

    I just realised what the problem was actually. I realised when the title of the post is too long the excerpt automatically gets hidden, its because I usually put the variables “seperator” and “site title” afterwards.

    however, I have just come up with a solution for myself instead but will still need your help instead with the following question: is there a possibility of being able to hide excerpts when being shared on social media? I can’t seem to find any variables for that at all? I don’t want to disable the open graph setting on social media because otherwise, Facebook will automatically just grab the first few sentences of my post and use that as an excerpt. So is there any possibility of just hiding the excerpt from showing on facebook? is there a variable for that? Many Thanks!

    @koboo Thanks for your reply and for confirming you’ve resolved your issue related to the description.

    As for your question about modifying the link preview to not include a description at all, unfortunately that isn’t possible. Facebook used to allow you some options of modifying a link preview’s image/description but the option is no longer available. See here for more information: https://www.facebook.com/help/community/question/?id=10154386228094582

    You are still able to share a link and completely remove the link preview entirely, but you aren’t able to only remove the description.

    Hi @koboo ,

    We’re closing this thread as there seem no further questions from you. Please feel free to open a new thread should you have further concerns.
