Excerpt not being used for descriptions

Please provide a URL for a post where this is happening.

If you don’t want All in One SEO Pack to auto generate the Meta Description from your post excerpt then uncheck Autogenerate Descriptions (https://semperplugins.com/documentation/advanced-settings/#autogenerate-descriptions).

I do want AIOSP to autogenerate descriptions, and I do want it to get them from the extract. Right now it’s not using the extract and I can’t even get it to not autogenerate them.

You have Autogenerate Descriptions enabled which is why they are being auto generated.

Exactly. And I want them autogenerated from the excerpts, which is what the documentation says:

By default, All in One SEO Pack will use the excerpt from a post as the autogenerated description and then fall back to using the content if an excerpt is not present

The posts all have excerpts, and the description is being autogenerated from what seems to be the full text of the post, without a limit.

Please provide a screenshot of your Edit Post screen that shows the Post Content area, the Post Excerpt field and the All in One SEO Pack section.

I looked at those screenshots and they prove that All in One SEO is using your Excerpt. I see no problems.

This is the Excerpt from the screenshot –

Esta lámpara de mesa es un gran invento de Ikea: da una luz muy agradable, y se puede orientar de forma fácil y divertida.

This is the Meta Description from All in One SEO Pack –

They are identical.

You are right, the description is correct now. Not sure if it got fixed by unsetting and setting options again.

The og:description and the twitter description are still using the full text of the page. Is that normal.

Do you have Autogenerate OG Description enabled under All in One SEO, Social Meta?

I do. Doesn’t this one use the extracts then?

The og:description does not use the excerpt here; this is in part due to the fact that the og:description is allowed to be longer than the regular meta description as well. If you’d like to have it use the excerpt, here’s some code you can add to a plugin or to the functions.php file in your theme:

I see that this issue is marked resolved, however if this is the expected behavior the documentation should be updated since it currently clearly says that the og:description is generated from the excerpt:

Checking Autogenerate Descriptions will mean that All in One SEO Pack will automatically generate your OG:Descriptions for each Page or Post from the Excerpt, if you create one, or from the first 160 characters of your content if you do not create an Excerpt.
