Excerpt length setting stopped working

A recent plugin update has broken the %excerpt% shortcode.

It now displays the entire post, even if the line number is set to 0.

If I add a manual excerpt to each post, it displays properly.

Is there a fix for this? – the way it worked before was perfect.
