Excerpt for posts used to make an Introduction

I wish to post items with an Excerpt, and use this excerpt to form a sort of introduction to my posts, once the person clicks the Read More link. This typically will appear before the full text in larger sized fonts or some other stylised method.
If there are other methods, that would be appreciated too.
