Excerpt doesn’t work

  • I’m using Bento with the Expansion pack.

    The native WordPress excerpt function isn’t working. I’ve read other posts here that indicate that it should work with Bento. I know some themes may be incompatible.

    This should be simple.
    > Edit the post.
    > Insert the Read More tag.
    > Make sure it’s not hidden in or cutting off HTML tags that may cause problems.
    > Publish.
    > See the post truncated with the Read more link.

    But there is no Read more link and the full article is published in my test at https://freedamerica.com/freedrev-100-1-welcome-faq/. The source code displays “<span id=”more-11983″></span>” where the read more link would be substituted. So something is being processed. But it’s not fully or correctly handling the excerpt.

    I’d like to avoid having to use a custom post type or a grid that makes this more complicated than it should be. I did try the add-in Easy Custom Auto Excerpt, which has added frills and simple use that I want. However that also did not work.

    Please advise.

    Hello Marc,

    thanks for choosing Bento!
    The item you’ve linked to is a page; the native WP excerpt works with posts only, and it only manifests itself on the blog page (the one you indicate in the “Settings – Reading” admin section. In other words, the “read more” tag will not abstract the individual post, only its representation on the blog posts page.
