Excerpt displays entire post

  • I have WP 2.0 up and running. Everything seems to be fine except that where I want to display an excerpt, the entire post is being displayed.

    In other words, wherever I place

    <? the_excerpt(); ?>

    in the theme template, the entire post will be displayed in addition to where the post is normally displayed. The excerpt is not displayed at all, rather, I see the entire post twice.

    I have another Blog in WP 1.5 that shows the excerpt properly, so why isn’t this working in 2.0?
