As the name says: Your custom data you’d like to track additionally. So it depends on your requirements… if you have no need for any custom tracking, just leave them blank.

    Hi
Thanks for getting back to me.

I read the documents. They are not so clear.

This is why I want a simple example of what would go in the name and value boxes.

Samples are much better than reading documentation that doesn’t use the box but instead uses code.

Without a sample of what goes in the boxes, you’ve built a feature no one can use.

    Cheers

Have a look at the section “What is a custom variable?”. There the Matomo team gives several examples on how to use custom variables. If you want to discuss further use cases, I suggest a discussion in the Matomo community.

WP-Matomo offers you to enter some static contents, e.g., if you are tracking a blog as a subpage of an online shop, you can use the key “area” and the value “blog” to differ blog pages from shop pages.

But if you don’t have a specific use case for custom variables, it’s hard to give examples what you may enter there.
