• Hello,

I’m trying to get a feed going from Events Manager Extended to Mailchimp that allows me to send emails from Mailchimp that automatically pulls in events from my WordPress site which has EME installed.

I am using the following Mailchimp merge tags:

    *|FEEDBLOCK:https://example.com/events/feed/rss/|*
    *|FEEDITEMS:[$count=8]|*
    *|FEEDITEM:TITLE|*
    *|FEEDITEM:CONTENT|*
    *|END:FEEDITEMS|* *|END:FEEDBLOCK|* ‘

No matter what I do, the email that is generated by mailchimp cannot be formated other than font color. It prints EXACTLY whatever is located at: ‘https://example.com/events/feed/rss/’

The problem is that I have no way of formatting what is displayed when viewing that url. So, I get one long string of events that do not link back to the specific event page on my wordpress site. All the email displays is a link after a long list of events that says “[Read More]” because that is exactly what is displayed at the ‘https://example.com/events/feed/rss/’ url. I need a way to format the rss page to put ‘
‘ tags between events and make them live links much like one would see at ‘https://example.com/feed/rss’

I’ve tried changing the setting in the EME backend within the “RSS Feed Format” section of the settings page, but it doesn’t seem to have an effect on whatever is displayed at: ‘https://example.com/events/feed/rss/’

    Can anybody help?

In EME you can format the RSS output to your liking, make sure to use the correct placeholders.

If you’re referring to changing the format in the “RSS Feed Format” section of the settings page, I’ve already tried that. It doesn’t change anything.

The link below is how I’d like to format the feed:
    https://lpvc.org/feed/rss/

This link shows you what I currently have:
    https://lpvc.org/events/feed/rss/

How do I make the rss feed formatted like the first link?

What formatting settings do you use for RSS?
Btw: do update to the latest version (just out).

First link will take you to a screen shot of my rss feed format settings. https://ca.lp.org/vclp/files/2011/11/rss-feed-format.jpg

Currently, the rss feed prints the following rss outuput:
https://lpvc.org/events/feed/rss/ which causes a problem when I feed that into an email in MailChimp as seen in this Example here.
I need to get the RSS feed to format differently to look more like this here.

Any ideas on how to do this?

Your settings for “RSS description format” is empty, which formats each entry. Move the settings for “RSS main description format” into this.
The main description is for general RSS info, not per entry.

I did move the settings to the “RSS main description format” and it’s still not formatting. See here.

Also, after upgrading as you had suggested, now my individual event pages will not display. I get an error 404 issue and I’ve already deactivated/re-activated the plug in. When I click on my “Events” page, I still see a list, but if I click on any individual event, it will no longer display. I also tried re inserting the sidebar widgets and that didn’t change anything either.

From what I can see, your settings are still off. These are the defaults:

    RSS main title: Events
RSS main description: Just another WordPress site - Events
    RSS title format: #_EVENTNAME
    RSS description format: #j #M #y - #H:#i <br />#_LOCATION <br />#_ADDRESS <br />#_TOWN

Any change to the RSS settings has no influence on the rest, so getting a 404 means your permalinks links are messed up. Go into the Permalinks settings panel and press “Save” again.

Ok, I restored the permalinks to the default and now the individual events will display with the google map and everything. Good. However, if I change to any of the other options, the events don’t work. I’d like to use a permalink structure that is more seo friendly than the defualt. Do events only work with the default permalink settings???

Also, I have restored the RSS format settings to the defualt that you provided above, however it doesn’t work. See here. All it does is show me the home page again when I type in the feed url of https://lpvc.org/events/feed/rss/

So now that the default rss feed settings are restored in the Events Manager Extended configuration panel and the permalink default settings are restored, what do you think is preventing the rss feed from displaying like this one?

    (@liedekef)

Events work with their own permalink structure, so if you activate permalinks, the event links should change to their own structure.
For RSS: that is not the RSS link. See https://www.e-dynamics.be/wordpress/?cat=35
