events-list.php overriding not working

Where have you put your new events-list.php file? Can you give me the exact folder location? Thanks.

I use a child-theme: maybe I have to put it in the main theme folder?

Yes, that’s probably it. Otherwise, that location looks fine.

we use wp’s locate_template() function which should check child themes

it could be that you have ‘Override with Formats’ disabled for your event pages, then the above template is ignored.
