    Hi there,

the plugin recently stopped working correctly; meaning no more events are being tracked and google analytics numbers were wrong. There have been no changes made to the plugin but updated to the latest version.

I also had the issue that all google analytics data has been showed double (e.g. page views) which messed up our complete month, unfortunately. After deactivation of the plugin, page views and bounce rate (went from 80% down to 2.5% after update of plugin) went back to normal. I saw in another post that someone had the same issue.

“Snipped type to add” was set to “universal”. I now changed it to “none”. Will this fix the issue?

Regarding the tracking: We have click tracking set up but I cannot seem to figure out why it disappeared from google analytics after updating the plugin.

Thanks for the assistance in advance!

This seems like an issue with having both the Google Analytics code snippet along with Google Tag Manager. Did you add Google Tag Manager recently?

Here is how you can make the plugin work with Google Tag Manager – https://wpflow.com/knowledgebase/google-tag-manager-support/

A future version will handle those cases better.

I’m guessing that choosing “none” as the snippet type will fix the double-tracking.

Please let me know if the above solved the issue.

    Hello,

We are experiencing the same problem as btomek. Tracking was working ok until recently (setup using google tag manager). We have double checked the setup with google tag manager and it’s the same, nothing’s changed but it’s not tracking though? Any ideas?

    Hi @fpman

Can you post a link to the page? I’ll take a look and try to figure it out.

    Thanks,

First of all, thank you very much for the assistance in that matter.
I have followed your instructions and set up everything 1:1.
I have not setup google tag manager recently, thus I am still surprised why our event tracking stopped working after updating the plugin (together with pageviews being counted doubled and the bounce rate drop to 2% problem).

I have followed your instructions 1:1 as described here:
    https://wpflow.com/knowledgebase/google-tag-manager-support/

However, in the general tab in the wordpress plugin, I cannot select the option from “Step 4: Turn on Google Tag Manager Support in WPGAE WordPress Dashboard”

Thanks again in advance for your assistance, I really appreciate it. If it makes more sense to go through everything in a quick screen-share session, I am flexible available. Thanks!

    Hi @fpman,

I think I figured out why it happens in your case.
Both the Google Tag Manager code snippet is there and the Global Site Tag.

Did you add the Global Site Tag to the page recently?

    @btomek,

The reason that it stopped, was due to the new code snippet detection method we used and the migration process that may have caused an issue.
That would explain the double-tracking, but I’m not sure about events stopped being sent.

Just to make sure of what I’m looking at, can you please attach a screenshot of the current plugin’s General Settings tab?
I did see an event going out through Google Tag Manager.

    Hi @yuvalo ,

Thanks for looking into this. The site tag was added about a year ago (to track phone calls from website). No changes to tag manager recently, last change was to add facebook pixel tag about 7 months ago.

    Thanks,

    Hi @yuvalo,

    thanks for your swift response.

I removed the GA code for security reasons.

Just in case, here is the events we want to track

To be even more precise: This box (https://imgur.com/dD2k07W) shows up via a WP Plugin after a user, who is not registered, reads two articles for free and reads the third article.

    What I want to answer:
    – How many users see that box
    – How many users click on the “reigtser now It’s free!” button (#jeg_registerform)

Maybe this helps to understand the full context!
    Thanks!

    Hi @btomek

Thanks for providing all the information. The settings in the General Settings tab look good.
I can definitely see an event going out for that use case.

Can you do one more check on the Google Tag Manager side and make sure that all the dataLayer variables are correct?

Let me know what you see. If you are still not able to solve it, we can schedule a zoom call.

    Hi @yuvalo

apologies for the delay since we had a long weekend due to bank holiday.
I can confirm that the events work again on google analytics. Thanks again first of all for your assistance.

When I now create a new event, do I have to change anything in search console or was that a one-time setup?
    Thanks!

I can also confirm tag manager variables are correct: https://prntscr.com/ss6e27 as well as the respective Data Variable Name e.g. “eventAction”, https://prntscr.com/ss6g4u

    @btomek,

Glad to hear it’s working now.
That was just a one-time thing, no need to do anything on that side anymore.

Please let me know if you encounter any other issues. For now, I’m marking this topic as resolved.

    Thanks,
    Yuval
