• I’m more than sorry to report that Event-O-Matic is far from O-Matic… It just doesn’t work! The problem is with the “venues”… and documented by many besides me. It is a nightmare in that the “venue” called for doesn’t accept ANY logical input. I would think that WordPress would do itself a favor by NOT, in any way, suggesting this widget. If I’m wrong I would like to know the secret of getting this application to work… I’ve already, stupidly, spent over an entire day trying to post some events… but the “venue”, again, is a nightmare.

  • I’m not sure if something has been fixed and there’s a difference between your version and the one I downloaded 2 days ago, but just wanted to let you know I was able to add a test venue successfully.

I’m still experimenting with the plugin (after testing out probably 8 or more other event/calendar/scheduling plugins) and so far this one seems pretty decent to me. With some minor exceptions, it’s doing what I need it to do quite well.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but maybe it’s worth a shot to try a more recent version since I don’t seem to be having any functionality troubles with my recent download. Just a thought.

Much thanks for your input! I downloaded an update yesterday and, yes, it works now. However, I believe those who wish to post will still have problems with the “venue”.. Example.. We are placing this online so that public events in Vermont will be posted, and because this is a rural state [lots of tourists] with events such as concerts on a village green or a 5k run, those who post will often not be able to post a street address or the like… they will post On The Village Green, Manchester VT. The application will not accept this even though Google Maps will produce results. Further, when it does produce results they are not very attractive… you can not control the size of text, etc. unless you effect other things.

I probably will need to go with this, however, I would very much like to test something else… and so far, have had trouble finding an alternative. If you have any suggestions it will be much appreciated. Thanks again for your help.

You’re very welcome. Glad it’s at least working somewhat for you.

Yes, I have seem others say they wished it would take simple text for a venue location as well. Too bad there couldn’t be a warning pop up like “no address found, do you wish to continue” and then you could still input a custom address. I don’t know what it would display for a map, but maybe with addresses it cannot resolve, it could just pull the city and state. The author seems to be very interested in improving the plugin, so it couldn’t hurt to request it.

I wish I could suggest something else, but the whole event/schedule plugin availability seems to be somewhat lacking as a whole. Not that there aren’t some ones out there, but it seems that everyone needs something so slightly different, and there are no mature plugins that have become even close to an all-inclusive standard go to for this type of need.

The other alternative is a paid plugin, but I looked a little and still didn’t find anything that much better than the free ones in this arena. I’m going to stick with this one as well as I like it’s simplicity and clean look. Hope this one ends up working for you as well. Best of luck.
