Event Emails – Unsubscribe or Manage Notifications

Is there a way to enable users to manage what event notifications they receive? Ideally for a BuddyPress installation this would be part of the BuddyPress profile preferences.

I am using mailgun for my transactional emails, so even adding a tag to the mail header would allow me to use their external unsubscribe option.

What have others done to manage this?
