event calendar not displaying custom header

i like the plugin and it is quite useful (working with the free version at the moment). I created a page with it, but it does not display my configured page elements above the calendar elements. The heaer is there, but not visible since I have it cofigured with white lettering and is set to transparent, and attempting to put an image element at the top of the page to display under the header. Is there a way of doing this?
