• Hi guys and girls,

I am evaluating make on my localhost site at the moment not sure if I should switch from the nice looking (but not so easy to tweak hueman theme).

I am running into some problems, hope you can help out.

    1. As far as I can see, the make theme is all about having a static page as a landing page (with banner etc) and linking to the blog through a menu. However I would like to show the banner (with the slideshow) directly from my starting blog page without having a static page. So unless I am missing something I cannot use the page builder to create a slider to display in my header.

I dont care if there is another way to do it (maybe add a new sidebar area into the header through a function and then adding a slider there as a widget). I am already prepared and using the child theme.

    2. The social icons do not display for me. I created a custom menu for that and the rss icon shows plus a general link symbol for each of my social links but not the usual facebook/google etc icons. How can I choose which icon gets displayed? Maybe the problem is that I am using redirects instead of linking directly to facebook/google etc. That usually is no problem because usually I can choose the symbol to be displayed, especially with font awesome … ?

    3. How can I disable the primary menu? I have my default menu set to display in the header bar area. The primary menu below the site title is not set (wordpress shows “select a menu” in the “manage locations” area. Still, the theme will list and display all my pages in that area and I cannot find the setting to disable that.

    4. The default menu in the header bar area does not show subpages obviously. It should because the menu it shows contains one (but it is being ignored obviously)

    5. Can I display 2 posts next to each other on my landing page, similar to how I have setup hueman theme on my site now: https://www.worldtravelgeek.com ? It would look much nicer but …

    6. I think I would need to extend the width of the content area for that. Is that possible (maybe using CSS without breaking the theme and responsiveness etc.?

Ok, thats it for starters …
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Alex

  • Hello! Thanks for giving Make a spin! Hopefully I can clarify some of the theme’s features for you!

However I would like to show the banner (with the slideshow) directly from my starting blog page without having a static page.

This isn’t possible with Make. Make Plus has a Post List section that you can use for this purpose though.

The social icons do not display for me.

Here is the documentation about creating a custom social profile links menu. You need to use the name of the social network you want to add. I hope that helps!

How can I disable the primary menu?

You can hide the menu via CSS or create a blank custom menu to use in that location.

The default menu in the header bar area does not show subpages obviously.

That is correct. The header bar menu does not support drop-down menus.

Can I display 2 posts next to each other on my landing page

With Make Plus this is very doable.

I think I would need to extend the width of the content area for that.

We don’t recommend you go this route — it can cause display issues with other parts of the theme.

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.
