    Hi everyone,

this is my first time posting here, so I hope I’m providing all the needed information in order to get help. (I’ve read through the known issues and searched through the existing topics.)

I’ve updated my wordpress site to 6.0.2 today as well as “The Events Calendar” to 6.0.1. Furthermore I’ve upgraded all my events to the new storage format – all without any visible problems.
When I want to edit an event now, I get a warning with this text:

Wenn Du den Veranstaltungskalender verwendest, empfehlen wir Dir dringend, eine geografische Zeitzone wie "America / Los_Angeles" zu verwenden. Ein UTC-Zeitzonenversatz wie "Europe/Berlin" ist zu vermeiden, weil es zu Problemen kommen kann!
Die Auswahl einer UTC-Zeitzone für Deine Website oder einzelne Veranstaltungen kann zu Problemen beim Import von Veranstaltungen oder bei der Sommerzeit führen. Weiterlesen

In short, it complains that ‘Europe/Berlin’ doesn’t seem to be a location timezone but a UTC offset instead. I understand the topic that I should use a location timezone as described in this article.
Can somebody tell me why ‘Europe/Berlin’ shouldn’t be a location timezone and what to use instead? Or confirm it’s a bug and I’m ok using this timezone?

    Thank you,
    Magamir.

  • Hello,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. And I agree that Europe/Berlin should be considered a location timezone. I am going to reach out to our developers for an answer on this. I will get right back to you when I have something.

    Thank you so much,
    Chad

    Hello @magamir,

Can you go to the WordPress Dashboard > Settings > General and re-save the timezone settings? Then, go to Events > Settings > General > Time Zone Settings and make sure that your site is using updated time zone data. If you are not using the updated time zone data, you will see a button to “Update Time Zone Data”.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Thank you so much,
    Chad

Thank you for the swift reply, @cmccullough1967!

I’ve followed your advice and re-saved my wordpress timezone settings.
In the Events-timezone settings, I had a button to activate multiple timezones, nothing for updating the time zone data. I activated multiple timezones now – but configured the setting to use one time zone for the whole site.
However, the warning is still on an events page when I edit it. I haven’t yet seen a negative effect though.

    Any other hints?

Hi @magamir, apologies for the delay here. I see, since you can set the timezone individually on events, the warning shows. But since you already set the global timezone as location-based which we highly recommend you should be alright. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/working-with-time-zones/

Let us know if there is any issue that occurs, moving forward.

    Best,
