Good morning, with reference to last week’s post by @websonica, I can add that the pattern we observed is related to the fact that in the post_meta table, concerning an order, two records are added with the same post_id, the same meta_key, which takes the value ‘_order_number’, and two sequential values of meta_value. It’s possible that some orders may have been deleted in the past, but this change in behavior is relatively recent.

    Thanks.

    Hey @websonica ,

Thank you for reaching back out about the issue you’re having with Sequential Order Numbers. I’m happy to help!

I appreciate you letting me know that you found that two records are being created with the same meta. Can you tell me if these the one that are missing when you go to WooCommerce > Orders?

    Thank you,
    Jessica

Yes, the missing orders are exactly those. In fact, the number assigned to the next order is the one following the duplicate in wp_postmeta.

    Hey @websonica ,

Thank you for clarifying that the orders are duplicated in wp_postmeta. This is the normal behavior of our plugin. If you delete an order from WooCommerce > Orders the order still exists in the wp_postmeta. Sequential Order Numbers extends WooCommerce by automatically setting sequential order numbers for new orders using a new class.

Can you tell me more about why you would like the order numbers to be skipped if you delete one?

    Thank you,

Good morning, I don’t want numbers to be skipped when an order is deleted, but rather to be sequential. However, the issue persists even without order deletions.

    Hey @websonica,

Thank you for clarifying! I didn’t understand your last response fully that there was a gap in the Order Numbers.

As a next step, could you please try disabling all your plugins except for WooCommerce and Sequential Order Numbers and then attempt another test? If this fixes the issue, you can try re-enabling your plugins one by one to rule out a potential plugin conflict.

Could you let me know how this test goes?

    Thank you,
    Jessica

    Hi @jessicaskyverge !

I’m posting a screenshot of the error to make it clearer…

eg. after the number 1 comes the 2! NOT the 3…

our order numbers are not generated sequentially (we have not deleted anything or changed anything).

You understand? this kind of error makes a plugin called “Sequential Order Numbers” totally useless since the order numbers are NOT sequential at all.

    Kind regards

We have a new release of Sequential Order Numbers Available and I haven’t been able to replicate this issue on my end. Can you please try updating the plugin to the latest version and let me know if you are still experiencing this issue?

    Thank you,
    Jessica

We already have the last version of this plugin but i don’t see any difference

    Hey there,

Amber here, filling in for Jessica. My apologies that you are still having this issue. Thank you for verifying that you are on the most recent version of our plugin! ??

There is a feature within the Sequential Order Numbers Pro settings (WooCommerce > Settings > General (Tab)) that has a checkmark for “Skip order numbers for free orders”. Would this order that was 9452 a free order by chance?

    All the best,
