Eu cookie law and Google Anlytics

  • Hi,
    I installed your plugin and activated the cookie block last wednesday. Since I activated it, it happens that Google analytics views decreased a lot and that ‘s due to the fact that analytics is a cookie itself. I disabled the block for the moment, but I wonder if there’s a way with this plugin to block everything except google analytics, cause statistics are really important for my blog.

  • That doesnt really make sense, does it? Google Analytics needs cookies to function, and without consent, you’re not allowed to set those cookies.

    exactly what I already wrote. You re not helping.

    Indeed, it might be good to be able to bypass analytics. The reason is that when you properly configure analytics (anonymous IP, don’t share anything with Google for other purposes) a consent is not obligated.

    By the way it’s possible to bypass scripts… so in that when only embedded content gets blocked (Exclude Scripts checkbox).

    I fully agree with @kasperkamperman here and was going to suggest what he wrote: if you configure GA privacy friendly, you don’t need consent, so it would be great if the plugin authors would implement an option to exclude GA from auto-blocking, as GA is widely used and as said: does not need consent when configured properly (so excluding it would make sense).

    It would be worth my donation if this feature could be implemented, that is for sure ??

    I had the same problem; GA count dropped to zero even after clicking the acceptance button, dunno why.
    Yet the problem can be easily solved by adding the line “eucookielaw_exclude” just before the </script> tag in your GA code.

    Obviously this will inflate your statistics a bit (since the first page a new user enters is counted two times, one before clicking the acceptance button and another when the page is reloaded after acceptance), but that doesn’t seems to me a serious issue.

    Any idea how to solve this when using Google Tag Manager (GTM)?
    My GA tracking works with GTM.
