• I may have missed the topic but I’m surprised to see no talk about the EU cookie law more recent than 3 years ago.

I run a small e-commerce site in English but I’m based in Spain. I use limited Google ads and analytics.

Google has emailed me (only me?) to say the deadline to comply with EU Cookie Law is 30 September. This sent me away to find out what this was all about. Well… I’m not techie so I don’t really know any more about cookies than the average guy on the street, but this law looks like a nightmare.

I’ve tried several plugins and none really seems ok. Either they’re too technical (you have to know where to paste the HTML code on your site), or they look horribly unprofessional.

Either way (having tested a couple), they destroy traffic to the site, but I guess this isn’t the place to moan about that.

The question is, am I the only one wrestling with this right now or have others found good solutions? I have customers all over the English-speaking world so I definitely want the warning to pop up only in the EU – not the US for example. And I would prefer the customer not to have to opt in but to able to give tacit consent by continuing to navigate. In other words I want it to be as unobtrusive as the law will allow.

I’d really appreciate any suggestions as I’m going quietly crazy here and my next option is a bottle of scotch ??
