  • Thanks for letting me know olimax. I’ll look into it as soon as I get a chance. You can follow the status of the report here.

    Hi olimax,

I had a chance to look into this further today. I think this is the expected behaviour. If I use apostrophes in the title of a regular post, using a default theme like TwentyFifteen, WordPress uses the HTML entity in place of the apostrophe.

This should automatically get converted to an apostrophe by your browser. If it isn’t, it may be because of an invalid or problematic character set declaration in your HTML code. Try switching to a default theme to see if the problem persists.

    My apologies
    You are right
That is strange behavior though isn’t it
    Wonder why that is?
    Thanks anyway

    Hi olimax,

This is probably related to the title being run through wptexturize(). This function turns straight quote marks into angled quote marks (which indicate opening and closing positions). The same is true with apostrophes.

This is appropriate for publishing, at least in the English language, but requires using the ASCII codes because the angled quote marks can not be saved in some character sets, depending on the database setup.

I can’t speak to the original reason for this being used for all titles, but I suspect it’s related to this.
