    Hello,

I am experiencing a rather odd issue:
I installed WordPress 4.0.1 on a VPS, running Plesk 12.
I uploaded a purchased theme which includes a couple of plugins.

When I initially tried to install the bundled plugins I received a message telling me that the plugins could not be installed (connection to https://www.website.com:80 was refused) – just as a sample domain.

After that I asked support to check it out, since I could not find any reference to this on the web (although the issue is kind of familiar).
I am assuming that they made some changes to the httpd config file since at this point, if I try to replicate the issue I get: Could not download file. File not found.

I used the same theme on a different webhost (running cPanel – shared) and everything worked just fine.

Did you guys ran into this sort of issue when using wordpress on a VPS?

Please advise if you have any suggestions or tips.

    Thank you very much

Have you asked the theme vendor for support? Generally speaking plugins should be optional and get installed outside of the theme.

On a web server that’s setup correctly, that should not even be possible. The running web server userid can’t/shouldn’t be able to do that. Unless the theme is going to a dead site?

*Thinks unhappy thoughts as idea pops into head*

What theme is that and where did you get it?

There is some very, very, very bad stuff out there recently where some Really Bad People? are distributing commercial themes for “free”. They’re also destroying WordPress installations… so which theme and were did you get it?

The theme that I got is Newspaper from Themeforest.

I restored the server image since, just to make sure that support did not mess in any way with the hosts files.
Now whenever I click on plugins I end up in the login page, I login and so on….

    I totally get your point.
I would assume though that since the theme itself had so many purchases and did not find any issues such as this one in the support page it would be something wrong with the configuration itself, not the theme or plugins.

What seems strange though is the fact that in a shared hosting environment everything worked just fine.
Now, with this VPS there are clearly some issues.
I got rid of the redirect issue mentioned in my previous reply however when attempting to install the bundled plugins (marked as “private repository” – local) I get:
    Downloading install package from https://.com/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/plugins/revslider.zip…
(whenever I access the file directly through my web browser, I can actually download it).
Is it possible that something is restricting wordpress to access the local file?)

    Download failed. Not Found

If you need my domain name for reference I can provide it in a reply.
Just thought it might give a little more detail on the issue

That’s really not a theme or scenario that we can help you with. No theme in the WordPress repo would be allowed to do that ever as it’s a really bad idea and almost impossible to support when it does not work.

Please contact the author directly on their site for support.

As the author is aware, commercial products are not supported in these forums. As you are their customer I am sure they will have no problem supporting you there.

    I understand now.
The simple fact that the install procedure worked on a different host does not mean it is okay to use that method.

    Thank you for your help!
I really had the impression that it was a misconfiguration.
