I really want to use this plugin – it’s got a lot of very good features. The pro features look like they would be really nice too… although only 6 months seems rather short.

However, I’m having a lot of trouble getting consistent (and working) restoration. It’s definitely not as plug & play as it looks.

It’s taken about 4 tries to get most of the site actually restored. I did a delete of the site info and files each time and had different results each time.

I did a default backup at first of a simple 1 pager, using the popular Hestia free theme. No errors. The restores all “worked” with no errors.

The first time, the site was plain broken. Couldn’t see anything, couldn’t log in, just gave server errors.

Did another backup, included the WP installation files this time.

Tried again, and I got the site itself to load, although not with the theme. Loaded the theme manually, and switched to it and sort of worked… and then locked me out.

Tried again, and the site and the theme loaded this time. But all the theme settings are absent.

Some more detailed documentation of what you can/should/shouldn’t do would be nice, because as it stands, it is just not useable out of the box.

    Hi @dgebel

My apologies for such a late reply, we had some technical issues.
But now I am fully responsible to help you ??

We recently released a new beta with a new option that may solve your issues.

It has a bunch of improvements for the restoration process and the backup process.

You can download the version mentioned above here:
Free version to be replaced: https://backupbliss.com/downloads/plugins/bmi-betas/backup-backup-1.0.7.992.zip

You can safely use backups created with v1.0.7 to restore with this version.

Let us know if that solves your issue
    Thank you

Thanks so much – that works MUCH better!

Virtually everything was restored. So far, the only things I’ve found that weren’t restored were a couple of “first time” settings in one of the plugins, and one of the customized background image in a theme section.

Going to try a more complex site soon.

One thing I was confused about… when I uploaded a backup, I thought it was going to do the restore at the same time. I was very confused when there was absolutely no change to the site…???? And then I clicked on the Restore button on the uploaded file, and… it worked “that time”. I redid everything, and finally realized what happened.

I would suggest something like… maybe on the popup after an upload, asking if the user also wants to do a restore from the uploaded file at this time. Something like “Upload successful: Do you want to restore the uploaded site now?” <restore site> <restore later>
