errors after WP 3.9.1 update

Just updated to WP 3.9.1, plugin is version 1.8, seeing the following behavior:
1) Random bit of link text appears at the top of the slideshow. It’s not a caption or alt text or anything, and persists throughout the slideshow on every page that uses a slideshow.
2) Instead of cleanly fading to each next slide, the new slide fades in directly *below* the correct placement of the slideshow and then the old slide switches in the correct location.
