I’m trying to move a hosted WP site to WordPress.com. I’ve installed the Move to WordPress.com plugin and when I click to get started, and log into my Jetpack/Wordpress.com account, I’m presented with this error:

You are not authorized to import content
Please check with your site admin.

I’ve tried disabling all of my plugins with the same result. I’m not certain what the issue could be. Any advice out there?

  • Are you seeing that error in WordPress.com or on your wp-admin dashboard?

I have updated to the recent 2.0 release of the plugin…

Technically, the URL once receiving this error is from WordPress.com but to get to this point, it is after initiating the “Get Started” process on the self-hosted domain’s dashboard.

With the update, I now see this error:

    We couldn’t start the migration

I have disabled all plugins except for Jetpack and the Move to WP plugin. I’ve disconnected and reconnected the account connections for Jetpack. I’ve even re-installed WP just to make sure some core file isn’t missing or modified unexpectedly.

    Hi,

For a short time, WordPress.com is offering migrations from your existing WordPress site to WordPress.com for free.

You can sign up for a new Creator or Entrepreneur plan and the WordPress.com Happiness Engineers will handle the migration for you.

You can request your free migration from here: https://wordpress.com/support/request-a-free-migration/

    Hope this helps!
