My database back-up failed. The log file shows 5 Error while writing file. The step then aborted after too many attempts. I had a similar issue over a month ago (June 14 – created a topic), but I was able to run the next day using different compression settings. This time when I try to run again, the job ends in seconds, doing nothing and creating an empty log file.

I am running version 3.4.0 of backWPup. I don’t like to update plugins without backing up first, but I did try to update to 3.4.1 in case the newer version would work. The update failed because it was unable to create a backup directory.

here is what is in the log file of the first failed job:

    Hi @donnajanke,
It’s the permission problem, BackWPUp cannot create or modify files, please try contact your hosting provider to fix this. Just tell them you have permision problem on wp-content/uploads folder

Or if you want, you can go to wp-content/uploads/, set permission to 775 and backup again.

    Hope that helps ??

It was not a permission problem. It was a problem with limited space on the server. I save my backups to cloud storage, but but there was not enough available space on my site for the backup to complete before saving the backup elsewhere. My host has increased my space and the backup now works.
