I’m getting the dreaded Warning: number_format() expects parameter 1 to be double, string given in wp-includes/functions.php on line 155

I deactivated all plugins but the issue persists. This message shows up on the add plugin screen.

I’m sure it was not there recently. I only noticed it today shortly after I activated the WooThemes updater which I’ve seen from older threads was responsible for this error in the past.

Unfortunately, as I said, deactivating all plugins hasn’t fixed the issue. Is it possible that a plugin could be responsible for this even though it is deactivated?

I also followed the instructions in the codex to reset the plugin folder. No dice.

Any other ideas what could be causing this exactly? Is it one of these weird issues where simply typing something wrong in a post could cause this error inadvertently ?

try MANUALLY re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
BTW, if you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. It’s a great safety net.

Ok thanks Tara. I’ll give that a try but I might have to have a stiff drink first!

In theory is it possible that a plugin could cause an issue that persists even after the plugin is deactivated?

Having seen so many mentions of the Woothemes updater causing this issue, I’m struggling to get past the fact that I just turned on that plugin a couple of minutes before i first noticed the issue. But whilst I’ve had many plugin related issues in the past I’ve never had one that persists after all plugins are deactivated.

In theory is it possible? I’d just like to know for my own understanding of WP.

    Thanks!

your testing (1. deactivating all plugins 2. resetting plugin folder) has pretty much ruled out plugin related issue. It’s possible a core file(s) got corrupted somehow.

Ok thanks Tara. Every time I have a problem I try to understand WP a little bit more ??

I will make some backups and perform the next suggested step sometime in the next few days.

thanks again, have a great weekend.
