• So this is what I’ve done thus far.

    1. Downloaded the Akismet plugin.
    2. Acquired two different WordPress.com API’s (Confirmed with Matt that they are indeed “valid”)
    3. Enabled the plugin
    4. Typed in the API and received this error for both API’s: “Your key appears invalid. Double-check it.”

I’ve emailed back and forth with Matt once or twice and he had a few ideas, but I think he’s really busy working with WP2. Which is fine. He said something about it being my hosting’s problem. I use site5.com. And think it would be hard to believe they would do something to complicate software.

Has anyone else had this problem and/or found a solution?

Are there other plugins that interfere with Akismet.

I am ready to start taking care of my spam, but it’s getting pretty frustrating…

    Thanks!

  • I concur – all the sudden my key was claiming to be bad, but it looks like akismet.com is totally offline at the moment. Dag, hope things are ok there…

We never received an API Key? What should we do?

Hey guys, maybe I’m missing something here, but everywhere I read about getting an API key, I saw that it was from wordpress.com.
I’m running www.remarpro.com, and don’t use a wordpress.com account. does anyone know of a way to acquire a key from my own wordpress installation on my own server?

    Thanks for the help!

    You go to wordpress.com.
You sign up (when signing up, note that you can choose NOT to get a free blog).
    Wordpress.com emails you your key.
You go to your own hosted blog and enter the key.

Aah. I see.. gotcha. thank you much HandySolo!
