Error with Akismet – Invalid Key

    So this is what I’ve done thus far.

    1. Downloaded the Akismet plugin.
    2. Acquired two different WordPress.com API’s (Confirmed with Matt that they are indeed “valid”)
    3. Enabled the plugin
    4. Typed in the API and received this error for both API’s: “Your key appears invalid. Double-check it.”

    I’ve emailed back and forth with Matt once or twice and he had a few ideas, but I think he’s really busy working with WP2. Which is fine. He said something about it being my hosting’s problem. I use site5.com. And think it would be hard to believe they would do something to complicate software.

    Has anyone else had this problem and/or found a solution?

    Are there other plugins that interfere with Akismet.

    I am ready to start taking care of my spam, but it’s getting pretty frustrating…

  • Had this same problem yesterday: “Your key appears invalid. Double-check it.” Today the key is valid. Must take a few hours for a new key to appear properly in their database.

    I’ve tried contacting the developers a few times. They are pretty unresponsive…

    I’m having the same problem too.. I got the API key 5 hours ago but it’s still not working for me =( I always got the “invalid key” message

    Recently changed servers and that did it for me.

    Still dont know why it never worked before…

    I’m not changing servers so if it doesn’t work, I cant use it ?? anyway, I’ve contacted the developers of Akismet. Hope they reply soon. Meanwhile, if anyone has any solution to this, please do help. Thanks ??

    I was having this same problem today until I read this thread and tried vkaryl suggestion of typing in the key instead of copying and pasting it and it worked. So, if you are having problems try manually typing in the API key instead of copying and pasting and hopefully it works like it did for me.

    Are any one of you whose Akismet key does not work using PHP 5? I just played with my site and changed the php handler to PHP 5 and got the same invalid key error which worked all the time. Switched back to PHP 5 and it works again.

    Any developer here can see if it’s some compatibility issue with PHP 5?

    I’ve been trying to setup my akismet connection and it still gives me the same error ‘Your key appears invalid. Double-check it.’ 12 hours after I signed up for an account. Has anyone figured out what is happening here?

    Mine worked only after 5 days of signing up. Patience, wait for a few more days if it’s still not working, contact the developer? ??

    after upgrading to 2.0.1, i stared having the same problem. For me it came from copying and pasting. All i had to do is hand type the key and the problem was solved.

    I’m having a different problem since upgrading to 2.0.1:

    I activated the plugin, clicked on Enter your wordpress.com API key, and receive the following:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare ksd_config_page() (previously declared in /home/superjux/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php:14) in /home/superjux/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php on line 13

    Interestingly, I recieved this error when trying to access Options–Sparm Karma 2. I activated SK 2.1

    Cannot load spamkarma2.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    I have tried typing it in, copying and pasting, getting a new key and no luck.

    I do have another WP blog on the same server, and that key is working perfectly. Both are 2.02

    I am going to keep trying and see if I can get it to work in a few days.

    I think that I figured out the issue.

    Akismet appears to be having server trouble at the moment. ??
