    Hi, I updated the plugin to version 3.4.2.1 and now if I try to open a CSV table it gives me this error:

    Error
    One or more columns doesn’t have a header. Please enter headers for all columns in order to proceed.

    going back to version 2.1.71 it works, what could it be?

    Thank you

  • I am having the same issue. Haven’t tried going back a version, but wanted to check. This issue also exists on previous tables, so I’m guessing there’s a bug in the upgrade. And I also have version 3.4.2.1.

    Same issue here

    Hello everyone,
    Firstly, our sincere apologies for all the waiting time on this reply.
    We had a New Years holiday break which added an additional delay.
    Thank you for all your patience.

    When it comes to this issue, we just conducted testing with our QA Team and we are not able to reproduce it.
    We tried several CSV sample files and we also tried previous Lite Versions and the latest version.
    Here are some screenshots :

    ?This is a test we made of our sample CSV file from?this link.
    As you can see on our screenshots, we try both as uploading it directly to the WP Media Library, or with “URL from Any Domain”.

    Can you all please try with that same CSV file on your Sites and let us know can you reproduce the error with our file?

    If you are not able to replicate the error with our sample CSV file and the latest Lite version, then the issue might be coming from your specific CSV data somehow.

    Would it be possible if anyone could send us a sample of a CSV file, so we can try to reproduce the issue with that specific sample?

    Just please ensure that there is no sensitive data in the file, since this is a Public Forum.
    And you can upload it to WeTransfer, then just send us a download link, so then we can conduct further tests with your CSV file.

    Let us know if that sounds OK.
    Thank you.

    HI,
    I attach some screenshots and the CSV file that continues to give errors, your example CSV file worked.
    The only difference I found in the two files is that in yours the fields are delimited by ‘,’ while mine by “;” (even modifying with ‘,’ mine doesn’t work).
    Thanks for your help

    Still having the same issue when trying to upload an .xlsx file. I loaded your .cvs file successfully, but I’ve had no issues prior to the upgrade with using an Excel file. Need this fixed please.

    Still getting this error with a link to an excel file.

    We created 2 tables with 2 different Excel file both placed in the media library, both worked fine before the upgrade. Now, one works fine, the other is giving the message.

    Error
    One or more columns doesn’t have a header. Please enter headers for all columns in order to proceed.

    The second file giving the error did have multiple tabs which I deleted from the file, but when recreating the table and attempting to save the change the screen just goes into a “loop” – never renders the table view, but will eventually give it a table name and shortcode, but it is not functional.

    The file is quite large, 7500 row, but it did successfully work before the upgrade.

    Thanks!

    UPDATE: I’ve converted the excel file to a csv and it still if behaving the same. Page just seems to go into a “loop” and times out

    Yes, converting to a .cvs file works fine. I cannot send you the .xlsx file as that is a membership file with emails, addies, etc.

    I’ve deleted propbably 40 columns (empty) to the right – and made sure there is only one worksheet in the file. Open to other suggestions.

    Like Jeffrey, this issue has only come up since the upgrade.

    Hello everyone,
    1. First we will reply to @fabiocannone;
    The file you sent us named “LIST-SIGARI-20231212.csv” has several blank Headers/without a Header name, we tried loading it on several different Programs. Here is an example screenshot from LibreOffice :

    ?As you can see, a number of these Columns on your CSV do not have an actual Header?Name, they are blank.

    Please double-check and make sure to have all Columns have a proper Header Name.

    It does not matter if it might be a Column near the beginning or the End of the Table; absolutely all Columns need to have Headers. Otherwise, you will see an error in our Plugin.

    So, let us know when you re-check and set up a Name for each Column Header, do you still see any issue.

    2. For the Users who already checked to have all Header Names ( no blank Headers) on your file;

    Something else is possible, a specific issue.

    For example, if you had some additional Columns before on your CSV/or Excel file, then you deleted those Columns;

    They are not visible from the user end, but during deletion, the file could save that there ‘was a value’ in some cell before, and our Plugin can pick this up when you render your Table.

    So our Plugin sees this as ‘some data was/or is supposed to be on some cell, but the Header of that Column is empty’.

    If that happens, the best/quickest solution will be for you to select only the range of Columns you need, then paste this as unformatted values on a new file/CSV or Excel, and replace the Source URL of the existing Table or make a new Table.

    For example, let’s say if you need the data only from?Column A to Column F – click in the first Column to select the entire Field;

    Then while holding SHIFT, select the last Column you need( in this example F) and copy this data.

    Then paste this in a new Sheet ( CSV or Excel) , but make sure to paste as “UNFORMATTED( CTRL+V)” Values on your new File.

    We recommend avoid any data formatting to avoid other issues.

    Now, use this new File – you can either make a new Table, or go in your existing table, then paste your file path URL in the?‘Input file path or URL’ of the Table, then hit “Save?Changes” and you can save this table without ‘breaking it’.

    Please avoid overwriting the existing linked file on its ‘linked’?location, because if there is any Data structure change, it can break a connected Table?– it is safer to make a new file, then do the process explained above, to update your Table source?(?It does not matter if you chose “File location” as ‘WordPress?Library’ or?“file from any URL”, the logic will be the same)?.

    If anyone does this, but still experiences the error that says “One or more column(s) does not have a Header”, please send us your file which you use, so we can examine it and do some testing, but only send it here if it does not contain any sensitive Data.
    If it has any sensitive Data, please open a Pre-Purchase Ticket on our main Support platform here, and one of our Agents will respond as quickly as possible to test your file – just refer to our correspondence here.

    3. @jsdanielewicz, if your process seems to be ‘timing out’ when you try to link a Table with your file;
    you mentioned your file has around 7500 rows.
    It is possible that this is caused by the current limitations of your WordPress and your Hosting Server.
    ( It was like this always in our Plugin/that is not version related)
    Basically, data that has more than a few thousand rows can? sometimes not be linked?in this way directly via the plugin (?depending on the server)?– this is a limitation that is coming from WordPress itself combined with server performance.

    What you can do is, if you get errors, and it does not work linking this Data directly through our plugin, you can first try to check on your System Info Tab of our Plugin what is your current PHP TimeOut limit, and Memory Limit;

    then contact your Hosting Support and ask them if they can increase your PHP Limits;

    if they can, then try to make a Table again;

    If you get a server error 500, that means that it is simply too many rows for your Hosting Server to handle.

    In that case, the only alternative will be to import the file, in form of Excel, CSV, or spreadsheet directly in your database via your database management tool, such as PhPMyAdmin, then you will be able to create an SQL query based table? from this database table, but this will not be possible with our free Plugin Version.

    ?We are not able to discuss any more details about that subject;

    If you wish to consider more details about possibly switching to an SQL based Table with larger number of rows, please open a ticket on our main Support platform here,

     and one of our Agents will respond as quickly as possible.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Kind regards.

    Thank you for the information but I wanted to let you know that with previous versions the CSV file with two columns without title, like the example file I sent, has always worked and since version 3.4 it no longer works

    I am disappointed that you’ve marked this as resolved without really answering what has changed. You’re asking us to take an extra step – like converting to the .csv file or copying out only the cells needed into another .slxs or .csv file. I can do either, but aggravated that I have to do so.

    Plugin Author wpDataTables

    (@wpdatatables)

    Hello again, everyone.
    @fabiocannone
    We are sorry, but that is not possible in making any Table from a CSV/or Excel with one or more empty/blank Headers for Columns.
    That is not version-related.
    Our Plugin is based on libraries from JQuery Plugin DataTables.
    This functionality from that engine simply does not work if you have any empty/blank headers in your source file, and it has always been like that.
    If you try to connect any CSV or Excel to a Table, and if that source file has one or more Columns without a Header, you will get some kind of issue on that Table.

    In the early Plugin versions, we did not have detailed specific error handling, but in the meantime, our developers improved error handling in later versions, and since the last several Plugin Versions, it says more details on the error, such as “one or more Columns does not have a Header”, which directly indicates what the issue is.
    You need to have all Columns checked, and none of them can have a blank Header/ in other words, all of them need to have a Header Name, otherwise it will not work.
    We can assure you it was always like that in our Plugin.

    @bwolary ,
    We apologize for marking it as resolved.
    We are closely following up on any replies you guys make on the Post and will continue to do so.

    It was always like this; nothing has changed since the last several Versions of the Plugin in terms of errors/issues like this from linked CSV/or Excel files.
    Our developers did not change that functionality.

    We explained in details on the previous reply in terms of what can happen if you previously had some value in a cell somewhere and if it somehow left some ‘remain of the value’, please refer to that explanation.

    In short, if you possibly had some additional Columns, then if you deleted them;
    Or, if you edited some row in a column that does not have a Header Name, if your Spreadsheet somehow stored it;
    Then our Plugin is going to regard this Data as an additional Column that ‘should have some value in one of the cells’.
    If you wish us to try and identify a bit more for your specific file, we are happy to do so;
    You would need to send us your source file and we will do our best to examine it, as much as our Support can cover.
    If the file does not have any sensitive Data, you can directly send it here, just upload to weTransfer and send us a download link.
    Or if the file has any sensitive Data, in that case,
    please open a Pre-Purchase Ticket on our?main Support platform here, and one of our Agents will respond as quickly as possible to test your file – just refer to our correspondence here.

    Or, you can make a test yourself, as explained above.
    If you just copy the Columns you need, and paste them in a new File as unformatted Values;
    If it works to create a new Table from this File, but it does not from the original File;
    Then it means something from the previously explained issues happened to that specific File.

    Thank you.

    Adding an update – Rolled back to the previous version and all is working fine – even with the large number of rows. There was no configuration changes done at the server level either.

    Plugin Author wpDataTables

    (@wpdatatables)

    Hi Jeffrey @jsdanielewicz,
    Could you please send us your source File/the one with the issue ( CSV or Excel), which can be used to reproduce this behaviour?
    If it does not contain any sensitive Data, you can just upload it to weTransfer and send us a download link here;
    Or if it has any sensitive Data, please open a Private Pre-Purchase Ticket on our?main Support platform here,?then our Agents can take your file and we can perform testing when we reroll to the previous Lite Version, and if we can notice any difference with the latest Version.

    If you can also please provide the detailed steps, best will be if you can record a Video, and the same applies depending if it has Sensitive Data – if not, you can send it here;
    Or if it has any sensitive Data showing in the Video, you can just send that in a Private ticket to our Main Support.

    So, we need to confirm all the details, is that an existing Table linked from a CSV/or Excel on your Site, which stops working after the Update, gives an error/ if so, what error comes up?
    First, you pointed out that it said, “One or more Columns does not have a Header” ( only on the second Table/ while the first Table was fine), but then later on, it just was spinning, and it probably timed out, we presume?

    When it timed out, was that when you tried to make a new Table, or loading the existing Table?

    Can you confirm about the first Table, which you said works fine without errors after the Update; since you said one Table works OK;
    How many rows does that source file have for the Table without the issue- does it have significantly less than 7500 rows?

    As we mentioned above, it will be best/and quickest way for us help isolate and troubleshoot this, if you can record a Video of your Screen to show us the behaviour, then we can clearly see all the details;
    and if you can send us your source File, so we can try to reproduce the same issue on our Test Sites, and try both latest and previous Versions.
    Thank you for all your patience and cooperation on this issue.

    I am experiencing the same issue since updating the plugin today. Is there somewhere I can download the previous version that didn’t have this problem?

    (@bwolary)

    I too would like to revert to the previous version. The only way I can currently make it work is to convert the .xlsx file to a .cvs and load.
