• I have recently created my site using the Twenty Twenty-Three theme. The Full Site Editing is awesome but if I try to change styles, it won’t save and gives me the “Saving Failed” error. Any way to fix this?

  • Hey,

    we’ll need a bit more information to track down the error. Would you mind opening your browser’s Console while you’re in the Site Editor, and send us its contents after you click “Save”? Here are some instructions how to do that. It will look something like this. You can either copy-paste the text contents of the console and post them here, or use a file upload service to upload a screenshot.

    jquery-migrate.min.js:2 JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 3.3.2

    DevTools failed to load source map: Could not load content for https://widgets.wp.com/wpcom-block-editor/default.editor.min.js.map: HTTP error: status code 404, net::ERR_HTTP_RESPONSE_CODE_FAILURE

    or just look here

    Thank you! Unfortunately, this seems like a tricky one. I see HTTP Status Code 418, which might indicate some issue with the server configuration. (If that’s the case, you’ll need to contact your hosting provider.)

    Let’s rule out some other possible causes first though. Can you try to disable all plugins please and try saving in the Site Editor again?

    Also, is the issue limited to changing Styles, i.e. are you able to save templates in the Site Editor if you only edit them, without changing their styles?

    Yes it only happens if I change styles

    @agentestrawberry You solved?
    I also have the exact same situation saving the change in Global Styles, and the error from the console is still “Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 418”.
    I have now written to DreamHost support. Of course it’s weird!

    Quickly fixed! But I had to give up some security. The support after a futile attempt made me disable mod_security

    I had this same issue this morning and was stumped. Indeed it turned out it was Dreamhost’s “Extra Web Security” setting and when turned OFF the admin saves just fine.

    I only notice the issue when permalinks are set to anything other than Plain Permalinks. You can see that the AJAX endpoint is different when set to non-Plain Permalinks, and I’m assuming Dreamhost’s over-active security doesn’t like it.

    To be sure this wasn’t a modification I — or a theme I installed — did, I installed a fresh WordPress instance with Dreamhost’s wizard and found the issue still occurred. I also brought that to their attention.

    I had this exact same issue, and my site is hosted with DreamHost. I disabled the extra security setting per @maurillo ‘s instructions and it solved the error.
