Error when trying to edit footer

  • When I go to Appearance–>Editor–>Patterns–>Footer and try to edit the footer I made some weeks ago, an error shows up saying: “The editor has encountered an unexpected error.”

    I’ve tried several times, but I get this error every time. I’ve even tried to open a duplicate. The same error appears.

    Can someone help me solve this? Thanks!

    Sadly such an error message is not very informative. After encountering such an error, check your both your browser console and PHP error log for related error messages that would be more specific.

    One reason we see such errors is when the content being edited contains invalid data. Unfortunately it requires intimate knowledge of allowable data in the code editor view in order to be able to correct invalid data. You could try copying the content and seeing if the copy is editable. A long shot since it likely copied the same invalid data. You may be forced to live with it as-is or recreate it from scratch.

    I’m new to this game. Where do I find the error logs in my browser console and PHP?

    As I said, I have tried duplicating the footer and edit the duplicated pattern, but I get the same error.

    And now I’ve just tried starting a new footer. The same error shows up.
