Error – Warning message on White screen of death

  • Hi,
    I’ve been getting the white screen of death on my site that is installed on a subdomain. I’ve been doing everything I can to get it back (I had it installed locally first with Xampp) but only thing that partly work was removing some buddypress plugins but it only showed the home page.
    I’ve since reactivated them since it didn’t really work.
    Anyway I’ve set the debug setting to true on wp_config and on my pages (including wp-admin) it brings up this warning message:

    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /content/HostingPlus/l/o/locallysocially.co.uk/lcf/web/wp-config.php:1) in /content/HostingPlus/l/o/locallysocially.co.uk/lcf/web/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 881

    Can anyone help with what this means and what I should do – and if it has anything to do with my white screen issue?

  • Did you first create the site in xampp/local If so check out this link. Leave plugins deactivated in the interm.

    Thanks for that – amazingly never come across this as I followed the “where to start” part of the codex which suggests xampp but then doesn’t tell you what to do after!
    I will try some of these steps and see if it resolves white screen. Made an error with the database though so I’m going to see if I can re-import the backup of it and use a search and replace tool to change my links instead of using notepad, so I don’t cause any database errors.
