• I get an error whenever I try to upload photos. I used to upload photos to my blog regularly last year w/o any problems… this is the message that I get when I try uploading:

“food.JPG” has failed to upload due to an error
Unable to create directory /home/.janeane/theseandthose/site_v1/wp-content/uploads/2010/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

  • It’s a permissions problem. Check the parent directory (wp-content) to make sure that permissions are set so that you can ‘Write’ to it. (ie rwxrw-rw)

thanks! could you please explain how to do this?

You will need to FTP into where you keep your wordpress files. Go to the wp-content directory and right-click. At the bottom you will see File Permissions…, open and make sure that all the Write attributes are checked off for Owner and Group.

I am having the same issue, when trying upload media I get the message:

“DDsketch2.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/doctordreadsjerk.com/website/wordpress/wp-content/uploads.

I checked the permissions and they are all selected and set to 777. Appreciate any help.

    I can’t even upload a masthead.
