• This is really annoying. Many images that I upload through media library will not crunch. They fail to complete the process through crunching, which means they are not in the media library.
When I try to re-upload the same images later, WordPress refuses to accept them, even if I change the file names, re-edit the images to create new.
It seems like WordPress recognises the initial image no matter what its filename or dimensions are changed to and refuses to allow it to be uploaded again.
This has happened across two themes, on about four occasions, so I feel it is not theme specific.

Today I have just completed writing a new post, but media library failed to upload three images. This means I can never use these images for this post, so I may as well delete the post because the images are specific to the post.
Has anyone else come across this problem?
Would be grateful for any advice. Thanks
    Eric

  • Does this happen with all images or only a percentage of the images that you upload?

Hi, esmi, It just happens occasionally, not all the time. All images are 1000px max, so they shouldn’t run over 8mb, although they are all jpeg.
    Thanks
    Eric

It could be an issue within some images themselves. Have you tried checking your site’s error logs for clues? Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

Hi, where do I find the error logs. Are these in the WordPress files?

No. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

HI, I can edit the image through media library, and view the attachment page, everything, except see it in the media library, where there is just a blank box where the image should be.
Today, this happened with three images in one upload, which makes me think it is not image corruption, but something else.

So, I can see the images in my ftp client. Yet I cannot attach them to the page because they have not crunched.
This is probably the reason why I cannot upload them again, because WordPress is already reading them as in my files.

Previously I have deleted image files through my ftp client, but WordPress still refused to upload the images again.

You must delete the images via WordPress. Deleting them using FTP will not remove them from your database.

Hi, thanks. Okay I have emailed the host and asked for access to the error logs.

Yes, tried deleting through WordPress initially, but that didn’t work either.
I need to resolve this, because otherwise I cannot use wordpress for the websites I run.
I am sure it can be resolved, because it’s not much use having a site if I cannot upload images to it.
    Eric

    that didn’t work either

    In what way?

    I need to resolve this

Since it appears that many of the images that you upload work perfectly, it’s not a WordPress core issue. That leaves you with:
    – issues within these images
    – intermittent server issues
    – intermittent plugin issues
    – intermittent theme issues.

Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    Thread Starter Eelik

    (@eelik)

Hi, I’ve activated Twenty Thirteen and deactivated all plugins.
Tried to upload same three images. They uploaded, but don’t get past crunching, they are just stuck on crunching.

I once left then crunching for about three hours, but they didn’t manage to crunch.
It looks as though the crunching is the problem? Would this be theme specific then?

I will try some different images and see what happens … let you know.:-)
    Eric

Would this be theme specific then?

It sounds more like an image or server issue. How large are these image files?

    Thread Starter Eelik

    (@eelik)

Hi, tried another image, and still the same, it is still crunching.
So then I uploaded a favicon and that flew through no problem.
Looks to me as though it may be something to do with the file size?
    Eric

    (@eelik)

Hi, I reduced the file size of one of the three images to 200px, no problem, it uploaded and crunched okay.
So this looks to me as a file size problem.
Is there a way I can increase the file size allowance for the images.
I really need to upload 1000px images.

Image size I am trying to upload is 152kb compressed (jpeg).
    Uncompressed it is 9mb (tiff).
