Error upgrading to wp 2.7

  • I keep getting an error when I upgrade wp-includes and wp-admin in my directory. I can’t access my blog because this error comes up:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_remote_request() in /home2/thwp/public_html/akr/blog/wp-includes/update.php on line 58

    Btw, sorry if I put this in the wrong section. ><

  • You might try manually upgrading using FTP. It sounds like the auto upgrade was somehow incomplete and did not transfer all the files or transfered some files incompletely.

    Just make sure not to replace the wp-content folder! You only need to update index.php.

    I always upgrade manually, so the auto thing is not an issue. I will update index.php and see if that fixes it.

    Edit: I went in and looked at the files and I am not sure which index.php you meant…

    Okay, after nearly pulling my hair out, I decided to start with a new installation of wp2.7 and just import all of my info and plug-ins manually. But I would still like to know what was going on so that I know for future reference. ;o)

    I don’t think it is…but whatever. If someone can’t give me an answer then I’m rather miffed. I don’t want to have to start over every time I upgrade….

    What happened: You did not upload all the files.

    Really. And by all the files, I mean everything in wp-admin, wp-includes, and the root WordPress directory. You have to upload everything.

    Okay, so I replaced the old wp-admin and wp-includes with the new. I didn’t upload the files individually, but in a zip, of course.

    But what do you mean by the root WordPress directory? I did this the way I have always done it…

    It sounds like at least one file did not upload correctly. My recommendation would be to uncompress the zip locally and then upload the files via drag and drop .ftp.

    All right. I will do that next time. My Web host still has cPanel 10 instead of the latest version, so I’m thinking that it was probably cPanel. Just one more reason to change Web hosts….
