I am using the latest version of WP – 5.3.2 in multi-site configuration. I am using PHP 7.3, having recently changed to that due to security needs for learnpress I think it was that I added to a subsite a month ago.

I was creating the new subsite linked above, enabled jetpack and got a brief error having trouble connecting to xmlrpc and then the error I titled this topic with. I haven’t seen the xlmrpc error since. I went into my php settings on the server and xmlrpc is enabled. I am not running any caching plugins on this multisite, nor am I running wordfence or an antimalware plugin. I was relying on jetpacks bruteforce protection up until this point and it had done quite well.

My host’s techsupport said to disable all plugins and then try again. I did that, removed some I wasn’t using anymore, but no change. I have the php compatibility checker and it didn’t find anything other than throwing internal 500 server errors itself in a manner very similar to this error from jetpack.

The health check & troubleshooting plugin didn’t find anything other than minor warnings.

I don’t have any real content up on the new subsite yet. Just a booking plugin for appointments. But the jetpack problem is across all subsites in this multisite setup.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Note from my techsupport at the host:

    Hello,

When I go to https://songdove.fa-ct.com/wordpress-mu/xmlrpc.php it resolves as expected and responds to any calls or testing I try.

Is it possible that Jetpack isn’t making the connection to the correct directory? If it’s going to songdove.fa-ct.com/xmlrpc.php rather than in the wordpress-mu directory that could definitely cause this issue.

How would I check for this and is this something I can change?

I should note that I can make changes to jetpack from the wordpress.com dashboard and it shows up in my self-hosted dashboard. I just can’t make changes via the self-hosted dashboard anymore. I want to set up sharing on the new subsite, and have to figure out where to go on the wordpress.com dashboard to get there now.

I tried putting a copy of xmlrpc.php into the root of the subdomain, but that didn’t work. I then tried uninstalling jetpack from the multisite, reinstall, with the xmlrpc.php in the root as well as the folder it’s supposed to be in, but now I can’t manage sharing on two of my subsites, not just the new subsite I added the other day. I’ve deleted the second copy of xmlrpc.php. The addition is now the main site itself. One other subsite needs sharing and still has it amazingly enough. If I can’t get this solved, I’ll have to go with a non-jetpack sharing utility and just leave it off in jetpack. Brute force protection and site acceleration are both still present from wordpress.com’s interface.
