The error you’re encountering is a generic WordPress error that can appear indecently of using Site Kit, with the error typically associated to an issue with your WordPress REST API.

In order to try and resolve this, please share the following:

1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.  
2. At what point you encounter this error. For example are you seeing this error within the Site Kit dashboard or only when trying to connect the Analytics module?
3. Do you see any warnings or errors when checking yourSite Health status (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information requested above? Such errors may include REST endpoint references.

I am seeing this error at both sites when I am trying to connect Analytics. I had an old account before and now I made two sites with two accounts maybe that is the problem… I just mention for your convenience.

At the first site I see errors for cache and to remove inactive plugins.

At the second site I see the same errors.

As nothing obvious stands out from reviewing your Site Health information, what I suspect may be happening is something at host level is blocking Analytics setup, although there are a couple of checks we can perform to rule out other causes first. In order to do so, please perform the below checks on one of these sites.

Troubleshooting check one – htaccess refresh: Please try to regenerate your .htacess file by visiting your Permalink setting (Settings > Permalinks) and pressing the save button. You don’t need to make any changes, only press the same button. After doing so, please check does the same occur once more.

Troubleshooting check two – Plugin conflict check: If the same occurs after refreshing your htaccess file, please follow the steps below, which can help rule out third party and browser related conflicts:

1. Login to your live site from a Chrome browser incognito window.
2. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
4. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google“.
5. Attempt to connect the Analytics module once more.

Note also that if this is only occurring when selecting the option to create a new account within Site Kit, as opposed to selecting an existing account, one workaround is to create the Analytics account over on analyitcs.google.com, and then selecting this within Site Kit.

I done all these steps and the problem persists. Should I talk with my hosting provider?

Before speaking with your hosting provider, can you share a recording of what you’re encountering, along with providing any browser console errors where you see this error? You can use a service such as Loom or RecordIt to share a screen recording, while using this form to share this privately.?

As mentioned above, you can also create an account from Analytics directly, and select this within Site Kit if the issue is only occurring when selecting the option to create a new account or property.
