Error: “The image could not be loaded” gallery shortcode

Hello,

we’re using shortcode ultimate in the latest free version and WP 6.0
I get the error “the image could not be loaded” from a gallery shortcode (lightbox) on a post.

7 images are in the gallery and do not load, but in a different, more recent post 4 other images do load without an issue.
The error happens only for users that are not logged in.
admin and other site roles don’t get the error.

I’ve tried to solve it by:

– editing the faulty post and removing everything but the gallery
– reuploading all source images / deleting the originals
– resizing the images in PS instead of wordpress
– setting a different thumbnail size
– deactivating cache

What could cause this?
