• hi I am trying to send mail using this plugin but I get the same error al the time saving the details or after sending a test email, pls look at the details I have filled?https://prnt.sc/8Y_OhkFNwqb6
the password is correct as I have tried to login to the MS licensed account via the browser
    I am on a VPS CenOs 7 PHP 7.4

WP SMTP connection error Seems like there are some problems with the enterd information. Please re-check & re-enter it and hit the "Save changes" button. We recently made some changes regarding how we save the username and password in the database, namely we are encrypting them, so that might be the reason for the connection error. Re-entering and saving them should solve the issue.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Please go to wp-admin/options.php from your admin and search for the wp_smtp_status option.

Please let us know what is written there. If you do not see this: encrypted please add it there and click on ‘Save’.

Hi Beatrice thank you for your feedback
in the file options.php there is not such a string wp_smtp_status

    (@papacico)

for your information on this VPS there is not mail server active to guarantee security, but your plugin should not need it as the mail should be handled by the Microsoft SMTP server.

    Hi @papacico,

thanks for your patience here. I just acquired the plugin and looking at old outstanding support requests.
Did you get this resolved or it’s still not connecting? Who is your SMTP provider?

    Thanks!

    (@papacico)

    hi @jack-kitterhing thank you,
no it is not resolved, the smtp provider is Microsoft, the credentials I have filled are from a Office 365 paid licence.

    Hi @papacico,

Let’s get this resolved then ??

So the connection method you are using based on your screenshot is using 365 auth. Microsoft disabled auth connections on accounts created after 2020 globally (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/mail-flow-best-practices/how-to-set-up-a-multifunction-device-or-application-to-send-email-using-microsoft-365-or-office-365).

You can enable SMTP auth on a per mailbox basis though. Can you check if that’s enabled or was the account created pre-2020?

    Thanks!

    (@papacico)

hi the account was created before 2020 … let me check the info you gave me, but I have tried to use other accounts but I had the same problem, but probably the other accounts were created after 2020.

I am using the account in the screenshot everyday to send and receive my own mail so the SMTP must be open.

    Hi @papacico,

Thanks for your patience here. Did you check that account? You mentioned it’s used to send and receive email every day is that via another SMTP based system or through Microsoft Exchange’s UI?

    Thread Starter papacico

    (@papacico)

it’s Microsoft exchange there is nothing wrong with the account as it has been used for at least 3 years for 3 websites and never had problems until I had to migrate the websites to a new server, the only difference on the new server is that the mail server Postfix is intentionally not active as your plugin should not use Postfix but Microsoft MSTP.
