Hi, we are using Yoast SEO for years, and we never had any problems. We use the XML sitemaps function disabled as we have another plugin for that. All worked fine for a long period of time…
This week Yoast SEO plugin started giving an error message about using the XML Sitemap in conjunction with our plugin for the same functionality.
We checked and Yoast SEO XML Sitemap was active, it’s weird as we never activated it.
We tried to proceed with the deactivation of this feature then, and the message we receive while saving the changes is: Oops! Something went wrong while saving
We tried to toggle any other feature at Yoast SEO and all of them are giving the same error while saving the changes.
We deactivated all plugins for a test, and Yoas SEO still can’t make any changes to features as when we save it, we get the error message over and over again.
Please can someone help with this?

Thanks for reaching out about the Yoast SEO XML sitemap feature. I understand you cannot deactivate the feature since you have another plugin handling that feature.

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts.

    Hi

We made all tests and deactivated all plugins. Even with only Yoast activated, we toggle any settings, and when saving it gives the message again: Oops! Something went wrong while saving

    Do you have any suggestion?

    Hi

The only solution we think it would work is uninstalling the plugin Yoast SEO, totally. But this is something we would not like to do.

At the moment the plugin is creating new sitemaps to out website and is crashing the Google crawling too.

    Please help?

I’m sorry the issue continues with only Yoast SEO active; it’s still unclear what the cause is. Though it seems unrelated, in WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings > General > Site Representation, did you choose that your site represents an organization? If yes, do you have the organization logo uploaded?

If the error continues when you try to save any setting, please check if there are Javascript errors on your browser’s console? You may follow the steps here – https://yoast.com/help/how-to-find-javascript-errors-with-your-browsers-console/

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, when we go to WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings > General > Site Representation, there is a company name there and a logo, but it was made by mistake.

I tried to make some change and save, but it is not saving, and give the same error message: Oops! Something went wrong while saving

I tried to delete the logo and save it, doesn’t work too. Changing to a personal blog doesn’t work too. Same error, it doesn’t save.

NOTE: The only thing we want to do is toggle the Yoast Sitemap off, as it was for 2 years… never had any problem. Please check the screenshot.

    Hey @mw3biz,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Hmm, odd. Do you see any Javascript errors in the browser console when you try to save the form? You can learn how to check for this here: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-find-javascript-errors-with-your-browsers-console/

Just as a possible workaround is to install our Yoast Test Helper plugin and go to Tools > Yoast Test > Reset Site Information.

Do let us know how that goes, and if you can find any Javascript errors in your console. Sharing a screenshot of it would help us in troubleshooting this.

Hi, we made the tests to debug JS on the Chrome browser, and it’s working normally.

We check the link you sent us in your previous message, then it says to check the Chrome Console at https://developer.chrome.com/docs/devtools/javascript/

We followed the link and selected Debug JavaScript, and then there is this page here where you can make the test too.
    https://googlechrome.github.io/devtools-samples/debug-js/get-started

We could make the test but it’s a bit confusing. For this reason, we tested on different browsers, Safari and Firefox, on both of them the plugin Yoast SEO gives the same error message while saving changes: Oops! Something went wrong while saving.

About the Yoast Test Helper, the plugin is installed, when we click Reset Site Information, it gives another error message: Yoast SEO feature?Site information?could not be reset.

Due to the nature of the issue, we’ll need to take a look at your setup. However, we are unable to do it here as this is a public forum. So, if you have an active Yoast SEO Premium subscription or if you can consider buying one, we can investigate the issue further directly on your setup privately through email.

Thanks for replying, due to the impossibility of resolving this issue, we are going to uninstall the plugin then, as it doesn’t work anymore.

Here we are sending another screenshot of the error inside the code:

    Hey @mw3biz,

In the first screenshot, we see an error 500 mentioned above the Yoast error. Do you have access to the error log files on your hosting environment? There might be an underlying issue that is causing our save to fail. With that information, we might be able to find the root cause.

    (@mw3biz)

Hi, I don’t have access to the log files but I will try to ask for that.

Here you have the screenshot of the error 500, on chrome console, Dev tools:
