Hello, I installed this plugin to my fresh WordPress installation and I was able to use to create thumbnails for about 4 videos, then it stopped working and this is the message when I click on generate thumbnail:

Error: unable to load video in browser for thumbnail generation and FFMPEG not found at /usr/local/bin

I’m using Firefox browser but I tired in Google Chrome and IE and I’m getting same issue. Is there some setting I messed up? My WordPress is setup on Synology NAS last year model with the newest OS.

Usually you’ll get that error message because the video is not in a format that the browser can load natively (AVI, WMV, etc). Do the four videos you initially made thumbnails from still work or did they stop working too? What format is the video you’re trying to make a thumbnail for?

This is what’s puzzling to me. The first 4 videos work with their thumbnails, but when I try to change it or regenerate a new one, I get the same error. So something must have happened/changed after they were done, I can’t pinpoint it. Videos are mp4 files, all of them. And those 4 videos I can play, my browser doesn’t have any issue playing mp4.

I wonder if it’s taking a while to load the videos. I don’t know anything about Synology, so I can’t be much help with that, but if the video takes more than a second to load metadata, Videopack assumes it’s not going to work. I’m going to increase that time in the next release.

That is one possibility since I did increase the upload file size limit in WordPress, it was set to 32MB and it wasn’t enough for my files. And since I host them on my own device I don’t care they are larger. Some files are over 200MB, I set my limit to 512MB.
If you can, please increase it and I’ll let you know how it goes.

I just tried another video that is only 12MB and still the same issue. So it’s not the size of video file itself, could it be just increased limit? Doesn’t seem like that would be the problem.

    Edit:
Well, I lowered the limit down to 32MB and still the same, so that answers that.

Yeah, I don’t think there’s any reason that upload file size limits would be the source of the problem. I’ve set mine at 1GB without any problems. That’s a server-side PHP limitation, and thumbnails are generated in the browser using JavaScript (unless you have FFMPEG installed on your server)

I just released a new update, which should either solve your issue or at least give better error reporting in your browser’s Developer Console.
