I’ve been getting these messages all over the place with different templates. I just installed WordPress on the web host today and I’m trying to figure out what things mean, but most of it is just confusing and I’ve been able to get rid of other similar problems by deactivating different plug ins.

This message below is part of the error message I’m getting with some pictures.

“Notice: link_pages is deprecated since version 2.1! Use wp_link_pages() instead…..wp-includes/functions.php on line 3303”

    Can I fix this?

  • Seems like you are using an outdated plugin or theme. Try deactivating plugins or activating a stable theme (TwentyTen) and see if the issue resolves itself.

I don’t think I’ve had any plug-ins running. It is likely a theme incompatible with WP 3.1- that being the case, I assume the only way around it is to use another template as I don’t really know how to modify to fix the error.

What I’m curious about is how to back up the current site so that I can change it back exactly how it was before I install a new template.

I copied the .css from the editor- If I understand correctly, the posts and all other information remain in the dashboard, not tied to the theme….Is that correct?

    Thanks DC

The themes are contained in a folder found in the wp-content/themes/ directory of your WordPress install. You can always copy the theme folders there to another location on your computer to “back those up”.

Copying just the CSS probably won’t do you much. In order to have your site “look the same,” you’ll have to have the entire theme installed and activated. Which as you say now causes errors.

If you just want to revert to another theme that was working, just re-activate that theme. That’s all that should be required.

I took care of that- I’ll try a new theme once more 3.1 themes become available- no sense in chancing it with some themes that may not work.

    Thanks again DC-
