    Hi,

The page linked above provides an example of the type of Bar chart I am trying to improve using the Annotation feature to display custom text on the chart. Click on the “ATTENDANCE” tab at the top of this page to view the chart.

I have found the documentation you have provided to help users accomplish this here:

    https://docs.themeisle.com/article/1160-roles-for-series-visualizer#annotation

However, when I try to update my .csv data files to include Annotation columns with the string designation and then import them into Visualizer, I receive this error message: “All series on a given axis must be of the same data type”.

Although your documentation page shows multiple columns with the String designation, any time that I try to create a .csv file with more than one String, the error occurs.

Here is a screen shot of the Bar Chart .csv data file that currently works on the site WITHOUT the Annotation:

Here is a screen shot of the Bar Chart .csv data file that is NOT working that I tried to model on your Annotation documentation:

And here is a screen shot of the Error message in Visualizer plug-in:

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thank you.

  • Hi @andycrossley,

This error appears before choosing “Annotation” under the “Special Role” option of that column in Settings -> Series Settings. In some cases, the annotation column may not appear in Series Settings immediately after choosing the source. If this is the case, you should click on “Create chart” right after choosing the source, even if you get that error. Then, edit that chart again, go to Settings -> Series Settings and you should see the annotation column and be able to choose “Annotation” under “Special Role”. The error should disappear right after assigning that role to the annotation column. Let me know how this goes!

    Have a nice day!

    Hi,

I’m sorry. I don’t feel like I understand the way you are phrasing your answer.

The error message that I screenshotted for you (“All series on a given axis must be of the same data type”) appears immediately when you try to Import the Data from the .csv file.

So how am I supposed to adjust the series settings on a file that doesn’t seem to import in the first place? I also don’t know where you are talking about seeing “Create Chart” as an option.

Would you be willing to re-phrase your response as a set of numbered steps, based on using (or correcting, if necessary) the .csv file screenshot I shared in the original post?

    Thank you

    Hi @andycrossley!

Please follow the steps highlighted in the screenshots below. In this example, I’ve edited the data using the “Manual Data” option from “Source” – screenshot, but the steps below are the same regardless the way of importing the data. This is the warning that appears after importing that data, the same as the one you get.

    • After the warning appears, you should click on “Create chart” (assuming that it is not created yet) or on “Save chart” (if the chart was already created and you are currently editing it) – screenshot. In my example, the chart is a newly created one, so for me the button that is circled in the screenshot says “Create chart”. This step is necessary to make sure the data is saved and it will reflect in the settings.
    • In the library, click on the pencil icon below that chart so you can edit it again – screenshot.
    • Go to “Settings” and expand “Series Settings” – screenshot. The data that was imported is saved even if you get that warning at the beginning, so you should see the names of the columns from your source there.
    • You should expand the “Annotation” column and choose “Annotation” from the dropdown under “Special Role” – screenshot. Right after you choose “Annotation” from that dropdown, the chart will be properly displayed.
    • Then you should simply save the chart and start using it on your site.

I hope it is clearer now!

      Have a nice day!
