Hi

For some time now I’ve been getting the same error message whenever I update a plugin, making it look as though the update hasn’t worked – yet if I refresh the plugins page, everything’s fine and the update has taken place.

The error message is very long, but starts:
Update failed: <!DOCTYPE html> LiveSite Pack ‹ The Riley RM Club — WordPress addLoadEvent = function(func){if(typeof jQuery!=='undefined')jQuery(document).ready(func);else if(typeof wpOnload!=='function'){wpOnload=func;}else{var oldonload=wpOnload;wpOnload=function(){oldonload();func();}}}; var ajaxurl = '/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php', pagenow = 'toplevel_page_live-site', typenow = '', adminpage = 'toplevel_page_live-site', thousandsSeparator = ',', decimalPoint = '.', isRtl = 0; img.wp-smiley, img.emoji { display: inline !important; border: none !important; box-shadow: none !important; height: 1em !important; width: 1em !important; margin: 0 .07em !important; vertical-align: -0.1em !important; background: none !important; padding: 0 !important; } a.toplevel_page_cookie-notice .wp-menu-image { background-image: url(data:image/svg+xml;base64,PD94bWwgdmVyc2lvbj0iMS4wIiBlbmNvZGluZz0iVVRGLTgiIHN0YW5kYWxvbmU9Im5vIj8

I can post the whole thing if necessary – does anyone have a clue what’s going on? It’s an annoyance rather than a desperate issue, but I still don’t like it!

Thanks
Pete

It’s a temp issue sometimes for server connectivity. But you can check the error log and see if you find anything there.

Hi @vijayhardaha – many thanks for your reply. I had a look in the error log – there have only been three entries this year, the last one this morning saying:
PHP Warning: openssl_decrypt(): IV passed is only 12 bytes long, cipher expects an IV of precisely 16 bytes, padding with \0 in /home/acefdbfs/public_html/wp-content/plugins/instagram-feed/inc/class-sb-instagram-data-encryption.php on line 100

However, since I get the update ‘error’ every time I update a plugin, & there don’t appear to be any other connectivity issues, I’m not sure it’s that.

In that case you can check this blog https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-wordpress-updating-failed-publishing-failed-error/

Maybe this will help you find the problem.

Hi @vijayhardaha – thanks again, but that doesn’t seem to cover it. Internet connectivity is fine, and there are no problems with REST API.

The strange thing with this is that the updates are not in fact failing, despite the error; I was hoping that this aspect of the issue might point the way to the cause.

Thanks again
Pete
