    Hi,

When I look into my site kit settings I do see the following error message:

Error: We’ve detected there’s already an existing Analytics tag on your site (ID UA-xxxxxxxxx-x), but your account doesn’t seem to have access to this Analytics property. You can either remove the existing tag and connect to a different account, or request access to this property from your team.

How do I troubleshoot this error message? It seems that I have a UA tag installed more than once? Is that the reason why my stats may not be accurate? Indeed I believe the number of visitors reported by Google Site Kit are not accurate.

Hello @cyberiqs and thanks for reaching out. This message is displayed when trying to connect the Analytics module within Site Kit when there is already a placed Analytics code on your site.

As stated the account you are logged in with does not have permissions to that Analytics property. This UA code could have been placed by another admin on the site, theme, plugin, or even hosting provider.

If you could provide your Site Health information or privately via this form then I can have a look to see if this has been placed by a plugin or other means.

    Hi Adam,

Thanks very much for your prompt reply.

I followed all the steps and submitted my Site Health Information privately through the form.

Thank you, @cyberiqs. It looks like this additional tag may be being added by the Complianz plugin, as I see this in your site’s source code: https://jmp.sh/mrIGpyT. This article from Complianz references adding Google Analytics using their plugin, but I’m unclear where and how exactly it’s set up. I’d suggest getting in touch with their support team to determine the best way to remove it.

Note that cookie consent-based plugins like Complianz will definitely have an impact on your Google Analytics via Site Kit or any other Analytics plugin. This is because no scripts – including Analytics –?will begin to run unless and until a user clicks Accept Cookies on your site. If a user never clicks that button or if they decline to accept, they will not be tracked in Analytics.

Let me know if you have any other questions on this!

Thanks so much Bethany. I am getting in touch with the COmplianz team and see if they can help me with that tag.

Sounds good! I’ll mark this topic as resolved for now, but if you do still need our help after you speak to them, please feel free to reopen this one or create a new one if you have any other questions.
