I very much like DreamObjects for backups, and it works great for the sites I have backed up with it. Very easy to use and easy to understand. I appreciate that.

However, it is not working on one of my main sites. I turned on logging and it says a file was generated. I follow the path to the upgrade directory, but nothing is there. Refresh. Still nothing. I also see nothing when I use the plug-in’s ui.

Don’t know what to do at this point, so here I am asking for help.

Oh, the size of the home directory is around 140MB.

    Thanks

    Disk usage is 177.16 MB

It will backup the database but not all files.

If it’s backing up the DB and not the files then there’s something ‘wrong’ in the file structure that’s causing you to run out of PHP memory.

Large disk usage is normally the cause, but there have been cases where file permissions cause it to hang up.

If you don’t mind sharing your domain, I can take a look at the files (I work for DreamHost) and see if I can spot a permission or ownership issue that’s at fault. Otherwise, you’ll have to look through all your files and folders to make sure they’re owned by the right ID and have read-permissions.

While you’re in there, can you please go into wp-includes and get rid of a directory named “new-2? It has some old git files in it. I couldn’t delete them yesterday so I renamed the folder and moved it there, hoping that would help. It didn’t.

    Thanks again.

I bet those are exactly what’s wrong ?? If you can’t delete them, the zip (which runs as you) can’t zip ’em. I can do that on Monday (I’m off to baseball and family things today ?? ) If you want it faster, you can open a support ticket and one of my stellar compatriots can kill the git files.

Oh, yeah, Monday is fine. Thanks!

Baseball, my favorite sport. I still throw the ball around and run down fly balls a few days a week. I don’t care for softball, so I don’t belong to a team.

Go Giants! And if you’re not a Giants fan, oh well. ??

Cleveland Indians ?? I was born there, so it’s a requirement.

It looks like a successful backup ran at May 6, 2013 at 05:14am (and I just ran one via command line and it worked too). I downloaded the backup and it looks like it’s backing up the files but not the Database. Is that right?

You’re never really off the Rez. ??

Thanks for following up on this and not forgetting. It is much appreciated.

Yesterday I made a stupid mistake and accidentally moved (instead of copied) all my files to a sub-domain, which I’m TRYING to set up as a development site. When I realized what I had done, I copied them back. Maybe that fixed it?

About the backup, I guess I should have All and Database checked on if I want both. I thought All might have covered it all and I would only check on Database if that’s all I wanted.

Right now I’m trying to import the database to the subdomain so I’m not working off of the same one, but I’m having a heck of a time. It is so convoluted and confusing to me, and I don’t have the right privileges. Ugh! Is this something support can help with? I’ve read many of the support files but I just don’t get it.

    Thanks again.

That could have confused it. WordPress is a simple creature. It likes long walks on the beach.

Yeah, I was about to try an explain it, and I realized it is sort of gobbeldy-gook weird.

The basic steps are to download the current DB, change the URL references, upload to a new Database, and point your subdomain to that.

Looking at what you’ve got, I think your wp-config.php is still pointing to the ‘real’ database and not the new one.

Go to https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=goodies.mysql& and make a note of the DB name (evp….). Then open up the wp-config.php file and change the DB_NAME value to that. You’ll also want to edit the USER and PASSWORD. That’ll get you pointing to the right DB.
